Australian Antarctic Division
An official website of the Australian government, the Antarctic Division guides the Australian Antarctic program. The website offers a wealth of resources, including links to: each Australian Antarctic station's website (providing live webcam, live weather, etc); the Data Centre portal (including numerous maps, some interactive); jobs and business opportunities in Antarctica; teacher resources; Antarctic law and the Antarctic Treaty; transportation and shipping information; recent news; and full text of the Australian Antarctic Magazine.

British Antarctic Survey (BAS)
One of the premier institutions and sites in the field of Antarctic study; part of the Natural Environment Research Council. Directs program of science in the Antarctic and related regions, addressing key global and regional issues through research, survey and monitoring; BAS also helps to discharge the UK's international responsibilities under the Antarctic Treaty System.

Polar Web
A collaborative project of the Polar Libraries Colloquy. It is managed by the Arctic Centre at the University of Lapland, Rovaniemi, Finland. The Polar Web is a guide to Internet resources dealing with the lands and waters surrounding the North Pole and the South Pole; subject areas include the physical sciences and life sciences, the social sciences and native peoples, as well as engineering/technology disciplines. Provides links to such sites as libraries and bibliographic databases, data centers and data directories, museums, organizations, research projects, listings of current events, mailing lists.

Scott Polar Research Instititute (SPRI)
The oldest international research center in the world covering both the Arctic and Antarctic regions; links to a comprehensive polar library and archives which are accessed through a searchable database. The Scott Polar Research Institute is part of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Geography in the School of Physical Sciences of the University of Cambridge.

United States Antarctic Program
Maintained by the Raytheon Polar Services corporation which provides science, operations and maintenance support to the Antarctic Program of the National Science Foundation's Office of Polar Programs. Gives information on Antarctic Program services, marine operations, participant guide, planning summaries, as well as links to adult and elementary-level education, history, maps, and general information.

U.S. Antarctic Resource Center (USARC)
At the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Reston,Va., USARC maintains the most comprehensive national collection of Antarctic maps, charts, satellite images, and photographs produced by the United States and other member nations of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR). Its holdings include maps and charts from Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, China, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Uruguay.

USGS Atlas of Antarctic Research
Describes ongoing and past projects. Provides a common base for displaying research results and data collected. Intended primarily as a tool for Antarctic researchers.

Artists to Antarctica Program
The program provides artists with the opportunity to go to Antarctica to create an artistic work or series of works in their particular field. Included are the criteria for potential applicants.

British Antarctic Survey (BAS)
One of the premier institutions and sites in the field of Antarctic study; includes an "Information for Schools" page, emphasizing the growing interest in not only secondary schools and colleges, but primary schools as well; contains such sections as "The Antarctic Schools Pack" and "Resources for Primary Schools"; explains the contents of the resource pack and how to acquire it. The Explorers Web
Dedicated to the exploration of the North and South poles. Includes stories and information about current expeditions. Gives a detailed explanation of how to survive an expedition to the Antarctic by giving the readers the costs, logistics, and items needed.

Gateway to Antarctica
Includes pages and links devoted to such topics as the environment, education, science, news, the Antarctic Treaty, history, and tourism; resources for teachers and students provides student self-study units, a glossary of terms dealing with the study of Antarctica, notes for teachers, a bibliography, and links to numerous related sites.

LEARNZ
Began in 1995 as an Antarctic-focused education program using the stories that came from New Zealand Antarctic science research. Has now expanded beyond Antarctica. Briefly describes the teacher resource kit, virtual field trips for students, and the web sites based on each of the actual field trips taken which provide background material and classroom activities.

NASA: Live From Antarctica

Although this field trip took place in Winter 1996, it continues to provide a wealth of information; it is being updated and redesigned to support educator and student use during the 2001-2002 school year; includes pages for students, teachers, parents, and the general public.

Polar Meteorology Web Module
An educational web site developed at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and designed for upper-level undergraduates or graduates majoring in meteorology, atmospheric science, other polar studies or other related fields. Includes numerous excellent links to web resources for current and archival sea ice data, climate data; also Antarctic sea ice movies, other educational web sites, climate change, polar warming, climatic maps.

School of Biological Sciences

Antarctic Astronomy and Astrophysics Research Institute (A3RI)
Part of the Space Science and Engineering Center (SSECC), University of Wisconsin at Madison, A3RI conducts and promotes astrophysical research, particularly on and involving the continent of Antarctica; aims to promote science education and outreach. Includes links to: AMANDA Project -- Antarctic Muon And Neutrino Detector Array; IceCube Project -- a proposed kilometer-scale neutrino observatory that extends AMANDA capabilities, includes links to collaborating organizations; and Ice Coring and Drilling Services (ICDS) -- providing ice coring and drilling services to NSF funded projects, includes information on drilling systems.
 
Antarctic Automatic Weather Stations
The National Science Foundation Office of Polar Programs automatic weather station project places automatic weather station (AWS) units in remote areas of Antarctica in support of meteorological research and operations. The AWS data are collected by the ARGOS Data Collection System (DCS) on board the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) series of polar-orbiting satellites.
